We've lost two members in two weeks due to the passing of Oscar Dorr and Ben Scott!

¨ BEN SCOTT : Member Ben passed away in Arcadia Tuesday morning at 7:30am on Veterans Day. Ben was a retired U.S. Navy Lt. Commander. He joined our club in January 1986 (12 years ago) and was originally from Chevy Chase, MD. He was also a former member of the Princeton-Athens Kiwanis Club in West Virginia. Services are Friday, 2pm at Kays Pongers in Punta Gorda. Our sincere sympathy to Norma and the family of Ben Scott.

¨ OSCAR DORR : A memorial service is at 11am, Sat., Nov. 15 , at St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte. Larry Taylor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Last week, Bethani Shilladay presented a great Power Point program about Oscar. Big John Lloyd's BBQ will cater following the service. Lorra has accepted a club invitation to be an Honorary member of our Kiwanis Club.

¨ GOVERNOR DAVE'S OFFICIAL VISIT : Gov. Dave visited our Division last Saturday, at Twin Lake Park in Sarasota. Members attending were Joan Greene, Sheryl Flavin, Emily Henson, Warren Bolton and Bob Carpenter. We made an interclub too! 51 attended.

¨ HALLOWEEN GLOW-LIGHTS TO KIDS : Vic Desguin said our club gave out 1,000 glow-lights in 45 minutes on Oct. 31 for the kids that night in historic downtown Punta Gorda.

¨ AQUI ESTA ADOPT-A-ROAD CLEANUP : Volunteers needed Sat. Nov. 15 , 8:30am to pick up trash from US41 to Bal Harbor Blvd. Meet at the CUCC church parking lot. Bring gloves. Bags & Vests provided according to Jan Nelson.

¨ KNOW YOUR FELLOW KIWANIAN : Pres. Joan started a weekly fun event by picking a member to tell something about themselves at the next weeks meeting. See who is next today!

¨ SAVE MAGAZINES : Bring your magazines to Kiwanis. H&SV puts a label over your address saying “This magazine donated by a Punta Gorda Kiwanian.” They are distributed to nursing homes, or places where there is a need. This applies to kids magazines too.

¨ CHRISTMAS CARD LANE : Entry deadline is Nov. 28 according to Gene Murtha, install Dec. 6 , takedown Jan. 3 . Three Judges are needed; a business, art/community, and a citizen at large. Please contact Gene at genemurtha@comcast.net for more details. Judging is Sunday, Dec. 7 , noon-3pm.

¨ GATORS vs DOGS : Gator Vic Desguin got back at Dog Rodney Taylor last Thursday. His toilet seat presentation and other gifts were enjoyed. Rodney donated $25 to KFCC and Bethani Shilladay gave an additional $25 to KFCC for the Texas vs Texas Tech game.

¨ CCCC CHRISTMAS PARADE : See Walt Evans to work at our hotdog/Pepsi fund raiser Sat., Dec. 6, 9:30am.

¨ BRING TEDDY BEARS : Members are asked to bring a teddy bear to be given to area law enforcement, fire/EMS, schools and organizations that need a cuddly bear for a child as part of Governor Dave's “ Hats & Hugs ” program. Members are also asked to have someone make crochet or knitted hats for children who lost their hair due to cancer, or, purchase a hat for a child.

¨ PRO-FOOTBALL “FUN RAISER” : Bethani Shilladay has her “Crying Towel” data sheet to report today and who owes what!

¨ HOLIDAYS COMING : On Thanksgiving Nov. 27 , we'll continue our traditional morning breakfast here at Bennedetto's instead of noon meeting. Our Christmas Program is Dec. 18 , but there will not be a Kiwanis meeting Christmas or New Years days.

¨ $200 DONATION : Sam Summers of CS presented a check fro Pop Warner Cheer Leader Squad.

¨ EVERBLADES TEDDY BEAR TOSS: Bethani Shilladay proposes this fun night Dec. 13 at the Everblades Arena. Spectators throw the bears on the ice and are given to needy children. Tickets $12 and she'll order them by the Dec. 1 deadline. We can carpool and save parking fees. Please let Bethani know if you are interested.

¨ KFCC NOMINATIONS : Deadline is Dec. 31 to submit a PCHS or CHS senior to be considered for a scholarship next spring. Please see Dr. Joe Maggiore for an application.

¨ KIWANIS KLASSIC KAR SHOW : Our annual fund raiser is Mar. 7, 2009 . Please contact Sam Harris for details.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON DEC. 2 : Meets at River City Grille at Noon. Contact Larry Taylor or Norm Hall .

¨ LAST WEEK : Larry Pope, CRMC Chaplain.

¨ TODAY's PROGRAM : Rich Frattarelli of Marine Corp League Toys for Tots.

¨ SPEAKERS : Larry Taylor is November Chair; Nov. 20 Marge Maisto, CEO Tidewell Hospice; Nov. 27 Prayer Breakfast, Jerry Dinnan on Count Your Blessings. December Chair is Gene Murtha: Dec. 4 Charles Brox Jr. of IMPAC University; Dec. 11 Chuck Sidlow from Circus Sarasota (Non-Profit Performing Arts Educational Organization); Dec. 18 , Annual Christmas Program, entertainment TBA by H&SV Committee.

¨ GREETER : November is Gene Murtha and December is Bill Martin.
