We're looking for judges for the Christmas Card Lane. We usually have 3, one a business person, one from the art community and then just a citizen at large.  If you can help with a referral for the business person and/or art community, please send Gloria Walker an email at flsunbum3@comcast.net  with the name and phone number of the person(s).  Judging will be held from noon until 3 pm on Sunday, December 7th.  No prior experience necessary, but cannot have a conflict of interest with a card eligible for judging.

¨ OSCAR HETTEMA : Oscar will be visiting our Club today! He is coming all the way from Dunlap, Tennessee. Oscar is a Senior Member and we are VERY PLEASED that he can stop by our Club today.

¨ GOVERNOR DAVE'S OFFICIAL VISIT : Gov. Dave visits our Division Saturday, 2-5pm at Twin Lake Park, 6700 Clark Rd., Sarasota. (I-75/Exit-205) Members free, guests $12 for BBQ. See or call Joan today; we need 4 for an interclub.

¨ OSCAR DORR : We were saddened to learn that Oscar died Monday at home. We have many fond memories of Oscar for all he did for our Kiwanis Club and the Community. A memorial service is set for 11am, Sat., Nov. 15, at St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte. Larry Taylor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Please go to www.LTaylorFunderal.com and sign the online guest book for the family. Our deepest sympathy to Lorra and the family. Oscar lived a fantastic and full life in his 81 years. Bethani Shilladay will present a video Power Point presentation on the life of Oscar today.

¨ AQUI ESTA ADOPT-A-ROAD CLEANUP : Volunteers needed Sat. Nov. 15, 8:30am to pick up trash from US41 to Bal Harbor Blvd. Meet at the CUCC church parking lot. Bring gloves. Bags & Vests provided according to Jan Nelson.

¨ KNOW YOUR FELLOW KIWANIAN : Pres. Joan started a weekly fun event by picking a member to tell something about themselves at the next weeks meeting. See who is next today!

¨ BEN SCOTT : Ben has been admitted to Arcadia Hospice House. Ben said to say he is OK. His address is 919 N. Arcadia Ave., Arcadia, FL 34266 or call 863-231-3300. He'd really appreciate it.

¨ PG EMPLOYEE OF MONTH : Mike Rooney presented to Mike Batchik of PG Wastewater Plant.

¨ DAWGS LOSE TO GATORS : I got a letter from Rodney Taylor's mom, it read: “I'm sending this letter to present to the Kiwanis Club so they'll not beat the crap out of him, verbally, of course. Rodney recently suffered a devastating loss in his life (i.e. Dawgs lost) and he will be unable to attend any Kiwanis functions for the foreseeable future. I know that your compassion will be extended to him in this time of need and I do appreciate your consideration. Thanks, Rodney's mom!” Pay up Rodney to uncle Vic!

¨ SAVE MAGAZINES : Bring your magazines to Kiwanis. H&SV puts a label over your address saying “This magazine donated by a Punta Gorda Kiwanian.” They are distributed to nursing homes, or places where there is a need. This applies to kids magazines too.

¨ CHRISTMAS CARD LANE : Entry deadline is Nov. 28 according to Gene Murtha, install Dec. 6 , takedown Jan. 3 . Please ask a business or group to sponsor a card, it's only $60. Contact Gene at genemurtha@comcast.net for more details.

¨ CCCC CHRISTMAS PARADE : See Walt Evans to work at our hotdog/Pepsi fund raiser Sat., Dec. 6, 9:30am.

¨ BRING TEDDY BEARS : Members are asked to bring a teddy bear to be given to area law enforcement, fire/EMS, schools and organizations that need a cuddly bear for a child as part of Governor Dave's “ Hats & Hugs ” program. Members are also asked to have someone make crochet or knitted hats for children who lost their hair due to cancer, or, purchase a hat for a child.

¨ PRO-FOOTBALL “FUN RAISER” : Bethani Shilladay is doing our annual fun raiser. Last weekend, if your team lost, you pay $1, if it won you pay nothing. If your team wins the SuperBowl, you get 1/2 and direct the other 1/2 to a committee, foundation, or a club need. Bethani has her “Crying Towel” data sheet to report today.

¨ HOLIDAYS COMING : On Thanksgiving Nov. 27 , we'll continue our traditional morning breakfast here at Bennedetto's instead of noon meeting. Our Christmas Program is Dec. 18 , but there will not be a Kiwanis meeting Christmas or New Years days.

¨ EVERBLADES TEDDY BEAR TOSS: Bethani Shilladay proposes this fun night Dec. 13 at the Everblades Arena. Spectators throw the bears on the ice and are given to needy children. Tickets $12 and she'll order them by the Dec. 1 deadline. We can carpool and save parking fees. Please let Bethani know if you are interested.

¨ KFCC NOMINATIONS : Deadline is Dec. 31 to submit a PCHS or CHS senior to be considered for a scholarship next spring. Please see Dr. Joe Maggiore for an application.

¨ KIWANIS KLASSIC KAR SHOW : Our annual fund raiser is Mar. 7, 2009 . Please contact Sam Harris for details.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON DEC. 2 : Meets at River City Grille at Noon. Contact Larry Taylor or Norm Hall .

¨ LAST WEEK : Candidates Day-II, Charlotte County Commissioner Candidates.
