Please Welcome our Charlotte County Commissioner Candidates Today!

¨ CANDIDATES DAY PART-II : Today is our 2nd Candidates Days featuring County Commissioner Candidates. All candidates have been invited and each will be given 5-minutes to make their presentation.

¨ HALLOWEEN : Punta Gorda's annual Halloween event in our historical district is tomorrow. Spooky ole'Vic Desguin is in charge of distributing glo-ropes to the spooks! Contact Vic to help, he needs a lot of help!

¨ KNOW YOUR FELLOW KIWANIAN : Pres. Joan started a weekly fun event by picking a member to tell something about themselves at the next weeks meeting. Today we learn more about Dan Garrett , retired funeral home director.

¨ OSCAR HETTEMA : Oscar's son Roger told me Oscar will be visiting our Club next Thursday. He is really excited about the visit, coming from Tennessee. Please try to make it as it'll be very important to him coming back for the visit.

¨ SAVE MAGAZINES : Pres. Joan asks members to save your magazines and bring to Kiwanis. H&SV committee will put a label over your address saying “This magazine donated by a Punta Gorda Kiwanian.” They will be distributed to nursing homes, or places where there is a need. This applies to kids magazines too.

¨ CHRISTMAS CARD LANE : Gene Murtha says entry deadline is Nov. 28 , install Dec. 6 , takedown Jan. 3 . Please ask a business or group to sponsor a card, it's only $60. Contact Gene at genemurtha@comcast.net for more details.

¨ CCCC CHRISTMAS PARADE : See Walt Evans to work at our hotdog/Pepsi fund raiser Sat., Dec. 6, 9:30am-Noon in the parking lot across from River City Grill. Our booth is also the “Lost Child Booth” for the parade.

¨ GOVERNOR DAVE'S OFFICIAL VISIT : Gov. Dave visits our Division Sat., Nov. 8 , 2-5pm at Twin Lake Park, 6700 Clark Rd., Sarasota. (I-75/Exit-205) Members free, guests $12 for BBQ. Please sign up today; we need 4 to qualify for an interclub.

¨ BRING TEDDY BEARS : Pres. Joan asked members to bring a teddy bear to be given to area law enforcement, fire/EMS, schools and organizations that need a cuddly bear for a child. Last week bears we donated 50 bears to PGPD officer Craig Brandon. Please continue bringing a teddy bear as part of the Governors “ Hats & Hugs ” program. Members are also asked to have someone make crochet or knitted hats for children who lost their hair due to cancer, or, purchase a hat for a child.

¨ K.I. PAST PRESIDENT DON WILLIAMS : I got an e-mail from Don who'll be 94 next month. He's living with his daughter and her husband in Ohio. Don as a snowbird came to our meetings for many years. He sends his regards to everyone!

¨ PRO-FOOTBALL “FUN RAISER” : Bethani Shilladay is coordinating this annual fun raiser; if your team wins the past weekend you do not have to pay $1 but if it looses you owe $1. If your team wins the SuperBowl, you get 1/2 and direct the other 1/2 to a committee, foundation, or a club need. Bethani has her “Crying Towel” data sheet to report today.

¨ BABY ITEMS NEEDED : Pat Gilreath says the Charlotte County CRT is collecting items for Healthy Start until Nov. 7 for formula, receiving blankets, onesies, diapers, rattles, footer sleepers, digital thermometers for babies, new or gently used strollers, car seats, cribs, etc. Please contact Kelly Magiera at 637-5118 or see Pat.

¨ HOLIDAYS COMING : On Thanksgiving Nov. 27 , we'll continue our traditional morning breakfast here at Bennedetto's instead of noon meeting. Our Christmas Program is Dec. 18 , but there will not be a Kiwanis meeting Christmas or New Years days.

¨ EVERBLADES TEDDY BEAR TOSS: Bethani Shilladay proposes this fun night Dec. 13 at the Everblades Arena. Spectators throw the bears on the ice and are given to needy children. Tickets $12 and she'll order them by the Dec. 1 deadline. We can carpool and save parking fees. Please let Bethani know if you are interested.

¨ KFCC NOMINATIONS : Deadline is Dec. 31 to submit a PCHS or CHS senior to be considered for a scholarship next spring. Please see Dr. Joe Maggiore for an application.

¨ KIWANIS KLASSIC KAR SHOW : Our annual fund raiser is Mar. 7, 2009 . Please contact Sam Harris for details.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON NOV. 3 : Meets at River City Grille at Noon. Contact Larry Taylor or Norm Hall .

¨ LAST WEEK : Eddie Lee, Florida District Kiwanis Growth Chairman spoke on why we need more members.

¨ TODAY's PROGRAM : Candidates Day-II, Charlotte County Commissioner Candidates.

¨ SPEAKERS : Larry Taylor is November Chair; Nov. 6 Larry Pope CRMC Chaplain; Nov. 13 Rich Frattarelli of Marine Corp League Toys for Tots; Nov. 20 Marge Maisto, CEO Tidewell Hospice; Nov. 27 Prayer Breakfast, Jerry Dinnan on Count Your Blessings. December Chair is Gene Murtha: Dec. 4 Charles Brox Jr. of IMPAC University; Dec. 11 Chuck Sidlow from Circus Sarasota (Non-Profit Performing Arts Educational Organization); Dec. 18 , Annual Christmas Program, entertainment TBA.

¨ GREETER : November is Gene Murtha, and December is Bill Martin.
