KIWANIS FISCAL YEAR STARTED OCT. 1; PLEASE WELCOME PRES. JOAN!

¨ WELCOME YOUR NEW PRESIDENT—JOAN GREENE : The new fiscal Kiwanis year started Wednesday; Joan has gone from immediate past Lt. Governor, to President. She will give us a great review of what she plans for 2008-09 and if you know Joan, it'll be an exciting and year of more accomplishment in our community.

¨ 2008-09 MEMBER HANDBOOKS : I'll be distributing the new 2008-09 Member Handbook today. Please review and if there are any changes, please let me know.

¨ CLUB PUTS BACK $50,440 INTO COMMUNITY : During Pres. Sheryl's 2007-08 year, our club put back $50,440 to 101 various projects, groups or individuals in need. We'll do even more in 2008-09 with the help of more members!

¨ 2 NEW MEMBERS : Joan starts her new year with two new members to be sworn in today. They attended the recent Wine & Cheese New Member Party. To be sworn in today is attorney Mark Martella , 265 E. Marion Ave. and Ass't GM Pete Wood of the new Wyvern Hotel, 101 E. Retta Esplanade. Please welcome them today. We start our new year with 62 Actives and 12 Seniors for a total of 84! TWO FOR MMMM!

¨ BOARD MEETING MEETS NEXT TUESDAY : Our Board meets is Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 5:30pm. All officers and directors of the old and the new fiscal year are expected to attend to attend to old and new business.

¨ RODNEY OFF “DIABOLICAL LIST” : Rodney Taylor squeaked an Interclub in last Thursday at PC Sunrise which gives us 100% of our members making an interclub. This give us 23 consecutive years with 100%.

¨ CHRISTMAS CARD LANE : Gene Murtha reports CCL planning is underway. Entry deadline is Nov. 28, installation of cards is Dec. 6 , takedown is Jan. 3 . Details and signup were passed out last week at the meeting. Please see or contact Gene at genemurtha@comcast.net.

¨ CCCC CHRISTMAS PARADE FUND RAISER : Walt Evans is passing out sign up sheets for our annual hotdog/pepsi fund raiser Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9:30am-Noon in the parking lot across from River City Grill. Our booth is also the “Lost Child Booth” for the parade. See Walt to sign up now.

¨ DIV-18S FUND RAISER AT VISANI : Our Division has a fund raiser at VISANI Comedy Club next Thursday, Oct. 9 . Cost for the 8pm show is $10 with 100% of the funds going to our Kiwanis Division. Dinner starts at 6pm if you'd like. See Joan for tickets. Once you get your tickets, don't forget to CALL in and make your reservation!

¨ PG CITY EMPLOYEE : Last week Mike Rooney of CS presented the Employee of the Month award to PGPD Officer Chris Owensby. He's been with PD for 15 months and has made a major difference in fighting crime in the City.

¨ NEW KIWANIS GOLF SHIRTS: Larry Taylor is still taking orders for a new, lighter weight Kiwanis Orange golf shirts with logo. Total cost is $32. See Larry. Those who ordered recently should get their shirts soon.

¨ FOOTBALL “FUN RAISER” UNDERWAY : Members put in $5 at first for their favorite Pro-Football team. Each week that they loose, you owe $1. If your team wins the SuperBowl, you get half the funds and you direct the other half to a committee, foundation, or a club need. Bethani Schilladay is heading up this event; please see her today!

¨ PRESENTATIONS : Past President Sheryl presented 3 checks last week; $500 to Joann Winkler for Empty Bowls; $500 to Mauriann Yusta for The Love of Kids Christmas Dinner, Dec. 9 ; and $200 to Eric DeYoung for the Charlotte State Bank Fund for the children of Clay Sellers who died recently.

¨ KIWANIS KLASSIC KAR SHOW : Chairman Sam Harris is in need of someone who is computer savvy to make flyers, posters, certificates, etc for our fund raiser Mar. 7, 2009. Please contact Sam ASAP.

¨ PG Kiwanis KALENDAR : Oct. TBA : Peanut Day Fund Raiser; Mar. 7, 2009 : PG Kiwanis Family Kar Show.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON NOV. 3 : Meets at River City Grille at Noon. Contact Larry Taylor or Norm Hall .

¨ LAST WEEK : Ron Struthers on the new SunLoft Center in downtown PG. Great topical program!
