¨ KFCC SCHOLARSHIPS : Last Monday at Rev. Bill Klossner's church, $65,000 in scholarships were presented, the highest dollar figure ever. Angelina Pacheco of CHS was presented the Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club scholarship. Angelina will be attending Edison College majoring in Nursing. Dr. Donna Widmeyer, Ass't Superintendent for School Support at CCPS was the awards night speaker. There were 10 members attending: Bill Klossner, Joan Greene, Sheryl Flavin, Bob Naylor, Joe Maggiore, Aileen Miller, Lee Swift, Eddie Webb, Rodney Taylor and Bob Carpenter. The program booklet was outstanding this year, in color! Today, the KFCC Endowment exceeds $1,000,000 and with this years scholarship awards, the KFCC has awarded $481,000 in scholarships in its 25 years of existence.

¨ P.G. KIWANIS GIVES SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP :

Last week Sal Stanzione came to our meeting as guest of JJ Gerow. Our Board used Chester Cole Education Fund monies and presented Sal with a $2,000 scholarship.

June 1: Kiwanis Day with the Rays, St. Pete, 1:40pm.

June 14 : CLE Training for 2008-09 Presidents & Secretaries.

June 26-28: K.I. Convention in Orlando.

Aug. 22-24: Florida District Convention in Jacksonville.

¨ KIWANIS DAY WITH THE RAYS : Sunday, June 1 at 1:40pm, The Rays play the Chicago White Sox in St. Petersburg. Tickets are $14 and includes the Party Deck ticket along with a food voucher for hot dog, Pepsi and snack. $2 from each ticket supports the Florida District Kiwanis Foundation. All kids get to go on the field after the game and take a lap around the bases. A Rays Baseball Glove will be given away to the first 7,500 kids 14 and under. If anyone wants to get tickets, contact Dan Newhart at 727-825-3293 or e-mail dnewhart@raysbaseball.com for ticket info. Maybe we can caravan to the game if there is enough interest. President Sheryl will ask today.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON JUNE 3 : Prospective new Members and their sponsor meet at River City Grille at 11:45 a.m. We have 3 PNM's who members brought to meetings, they are: Darrin Metz (Diehl); Ed Miller (Hicks), and Randy Spence (Klossner) . Please turn in application ASAP. Contact Susan Scribner.

¨ ALUMINUM CANS : Please bring your aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bag the cans and put in Ben Scott or Dan Garrett's car.

¨ CELL PHONES : Community Service collects used cell phones and gives to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if they need it. Please give your phone & charger; to Roger Enger.

¨ P.G. KIWANIS POSTER : Bill Martin is Chairman of our color poster project, a great gift; $5 each, or framed/signed by artist Ron Bates for $25, or Special Framed Poster “Personalized” by the artist for $50. Please see Bill, Joan Greene's Accurate Accounting, Dr. Rick Fox's dentist office, Peace River Wildlife Center, Nolan Insurance, Bobbie Diehl's CC MotorSports Park.

¨ LT. GOV. JOAN, CARP, AND KIWANIS INTN'L PRES . Last June in San Antonio, Lt. Gov. Joan and I got to meet the Kiwanis International President Dave Curry of Butte, Montana at the Convention.

¨ CLUB POLICY ON CANDIDATES: Please feel free to bring a candidate to lunch, but, no politicking in the building. Introduce them by the office they seek, but no speeches. Literature and petitions must be distributed OUTSIDE the building. No announced candidate will be considered for membership until after the elections. Candidates in the Aug. 26 Primary will be invited Aug. 14 to a “Candidates Day” program. Those in the Nov. 4 General Elections, will be invited to speak Oct. 30. Kiwanis International forbids politicking at club meetings. Please abide by the Kiwanis International and club policy.
