¨ NOMINATIONS : Last week, Pres. Sheryl announced the list of nominees for the annual Elections next Thursday. We are still accepting nominations from the floor today. Nominees are:

President : Joan Greene

President Elect : JJ Gerow

Vice-President : Larry Taylor

Director, 3-year term, 2008-2011: (Need 3)

Director, 2-year term, 2007-2010, for vacancy.

Director, 1-year term, 2006-2009, for vacancy.

We have five (5) Director positions available; there are six (6)nominees for Director, they are: Dan Garrett, Norm Hall, Cindy Milburn, Mike Rooney, Bethani Shilladay and Eddie Webb .

¨ ANNUAL BOY SCOUT F.O.S. FUND RAISER: Our annual BSA Friends of Scouting fund raiser started Feb. 7. Members to date have donated or pledged $4,010 towards our $7,800 goal. Please bring your donation to the meeting or mail to my home so we can end the project. Please help if you haven't donated. Thanks.

¨ WELCOME NEW MEMBER : The Board approved Eddie Webb's new member, Eric DeYoung. Eric is no stranger to Kiwanis. His dad, Craig DeYoung started in Kiwanis in our Club when he got out of High School. Eric graduated from UF and will soon get his MBA from Florida Gulf Coast University. Eric was in Key Club at CHS. He is a commercial lender for Charlotte State Bank in Punta Gorda.

¨ APRIL 19th BLOCK PARTY : Our club will participate again as a fund raiser in selling tickets and pulling beer for the crowds. Last night, members were asked to show up at the TIPS Training at Peace River Distribution (Budweiser) on Piper Road. Hope a lot showed up as it is a state requirement. We'll have an update today.

¨ PG Kiwanis KALENDAR:

Apr. 19: Block Party beer sales, training TBA.

May 17 : Div-18S Prayer Breakfast.

June 14 : CLE Training for 2008-09 Presidents & Secretaries.

June 26-28: K.I. Convention in Orlando.

Aug. 22-24: Florida District Convention in Jacksonville.

¨ KEY CLUB CONVENTION : Our CHS Key Club is sending 2 boys and 3 girls to Orlando this weekend, thanks to S.Y. Chair JJ Gerow, Joan Greene for transportation and Chaperone, and Sheryl Flavin for transportation to Orlando.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON MAY 6 : Prospective new Members and their sponsor meet at River City Grille at 11:45 a.m. We have 3 PNM's who members brought to meetings, they are: Darrin Metz (Diehl); Ed Miller (Hicks), and Randy Spence (Klossner) . Please turn in application ASAP. For Kiwanis to do more community service, we need more members.

¨ ALUMINUM CANS : Please bring your aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bag the cans and then put in Ben Scott or Dan Garrett's car.

¨ KIWANIS CRUISE TO JAMAICA & GRAND CAYMAN FOR INTERCLUB : Joan and I posed with the President and Secretary of the Grand Cayman Kiwanis Club in George Town. Lt. Gov. Joan Greene is shown rock climbing on the ship Navigator, and I'm having the time of my life “Tubing” down a Jamaica mountainriver with lots of rapids. WONDERFUL trip! ¨ CELL PHONES : Community Service collects used cell phones and gives to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call directly to 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if they need it. Please bring your phone and charger; give to Roger Enger.

¨ CLUB POLICY ON CANDIDATES: Please feel free to bring a candidate to lunch, but, no politicking in the building. Introduce your guest by the office they seek, but no speeches. Literature and petitions must be distributed OUTSIDE the building. No announced candidate will be considered for membership until after the election. Candidates in the Aug. 26 Primary will be invited Aug. 14 to a “Candidates Day” program. Those in the Nov. 4 General Elections, will be invited to speak Oct. 30. Kiwanis International forbids politicking at club meetings. Please abide by the Kiwanis International and club policy.
