¨ 4th OF JULY FIREWORKS : Last week we announced we were ending our 28 years in putting on the 4th of July Fireworks due to financial issues. In this morning's Charlotte Sun, Smuggler's and Bruce Laishley said they will do the fireworks.

¨ LARRY TAYLOR NAMED NEW CHAIR OF H&SV : Larry has agreed to take over as Chairman of this committee. If you would like to switch your Committee choice, please see Larry.

¨ GOVERNOR MARK'S VISIT : We had 7 members and 3 guests attend Gov. Mark's official Div-18S visit in Englewood at the Boca Royale Golf & CC. Pres. Sheryl will give us an update today. Members attending were Lt. Gov. Joan Greene, Pres. Sheryl Flavin, VP JJ Gerow, Secretary Bob Carpenter, Past Treasurer Bob Naylor, Past Governor Warren Bolton, Past Lt. Gov. Mike Rooney.

¨ OSCAR DORR UPDATE : I got an e-mail from Lorra Dorr and she said Oscar is still at Charlotte Harbor Health Care but is making progress and hopes to be home in 3-4 weeks and get back to his computer. Please stop by and see him if you have a chance.

¨ NEED PRESIDENT ELECT REPLACEMENT : As you know, Gene Murtha stepped down as President Elect for 2008-09 but remains a member due to his wife's health and treatments in California. The Board is looking for an immediate replacement. If you would like to get involved in becoming Club President Oct. 1, 2008, please let me or Pres. Sheryl know ASAP. Thanks.

¨ OSCAR HETTEMA COMING FOR A VISIT : I received an e-mail from Oscar's son Roger and Oscar will pay us a visit on Jan. 24. Please try to attend and welcome him.

¨ P.G. KIWANIS POSTER GREAT GIFT : Bill Martin is taking over Ralph Jordan's position of selling our color posters, a great gift; $5 each or framed for $25. ¨ PGCC WINE & JAZZ FEST FUND RAISER FEB. 16 : Robin Lindecamp is coordinating a club fund raiser. For every ticket we sell we will get $10. Tickets are $65 before Jan. 31; $75 after that. ¨ CLUB POLICY ON POLITICAL CANDIDATES: Please feel free to bring a candidate to lunch, but, no politicking in the building. You can introduce your guest by the office they seek, but no speeches. Literature and petitions must be distributed OUTSIDE the building. No announced candidate will be considered for membership until after the election. Candidates on the Aug. 26 Primary ballot will be invited Aug. 14 to a “Candidates Day” program. Those on the Nov. 4 General Elections ballot, will be invited to speak Oct. 30. Kiwanis International forbids politicking at club meetings. Please abide by the Kiwanis International and club policy.

¨ CELL PHONES : Community Service collects used cell phones and gives to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call directly to 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if they need it. Please bring your phone and charger; give to Roger Enger.
