¨ BOARD DECISION ON MEETING LOCATION : Your Board of Directors met Tuesday, held a lengthy discussion on the issue and vote by members to move our meeting site. Seven members also attended to express their thoughts. After all things considered, your Board vote to stay here at the American Legion; 8 voted to stay, 6 voted to move to Benedetto's. There was serious discussion on how to work with the American Legion in making improvements. There were two Committees name to address specific items and concerns. The meeting was very constructive and everyone's opinion was respected and listened to. Pres. Sheryl said, “We don't want this issue to split up our club. Our mission is to continue our community service and work together as Kiwanians.”

¨ BOARD VOTES UNANIMOUSLY TO END 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS: Another issue Tuesday that's been debated for almost two years came to a head. All things considered, in the best interests of the Club, and after 28 years, we no longer are able to do the Celebration & Fireworks. Specifics will be announced today.

¨ GOVERNOR MARK'S VISIT SATURDAY : Gov. Mark & Sharon will have their official Div-18S visit/banquet in Englewood at the Boca Royale Golf & CC. Members fee is paid for by the Club, guests are $30 each. Cocktails at 5pm, dinner at 6pm. Address is 1601 Englewood Rd. which is on the Sarasota County side of Englewood. Go to MapQuest for a map.

¨ STUBLEN'S CHRISTMAS DISPLAY CHECK : Last week, member Robin Stublen said his display this year raised $3,268 in donations, and he presented checks for $1,634 to our Club and $1,634 to KFCC. Fantastic display Robin! What a great community service!

¨ GENE MURTHA'S CALIFORNIA ADDRESS : Gene and Theresa Murtha are out in California. Their mailing address is: 130 E. Chapman Ave. Apt. 215, Fullerton, CA, 92832. You can still contact them via e-mail or cell: 941-258-2080.

¨ NEED PRESIDENT ELECT REPLACEMENT: As you know, Gene Murtha's wife Theresa is undergoing treatments for breast cancer in California and Gene will be doing consultant work there, so Gene stepped down as President Elect for 2008-09; he remains a member. The Board is looking for an immediate replacement. If you would like to get involved in becoming Club President Oct. 1, 2008, please let me or Pres. Sheryl know ASAP. Thanks.

¨ PLEASE WELCOME NEW MEMBER: Our newest member is a PNM by Gary Ginter. He's Don Rutherford , Ginter's neighbor. Don is a Retired Army Lt. Col in Hospital Administration. His wife Sandra is a nurse at a nursing facility in Charlotte Harbor.

¨ OSCAR HETTEMA COMING FOR A VISIT : I received an e-mail from Oscar's son Roger and Oscar will pay us a visit on Jan. 24. Please try to attend and welcome him.

¨ P.G. KIWANIS POSTER GREAT GIFT : Ralph Jordan continues selling our color posters, a great gift; $5 each or framed for $25. These also make a great house warming gift, an anniversary, for the office, etc. Please see Ralph or go to Joan Greene's Accurate Accounting, Bill Martin's Insurance, Rick Fox's dentist office, Peace River Wildlife Gift Shop, Nolan Family Insurance and Bobbie Diehl's CC MotorSports Park. Jordan reported Dr. Fox sold $150 in posters.

¨ PGCC WINE & JAZZ FEST FUND RAISER : Robin Lindecamp is coordinating a club fund raiser. For every ticket we sell to the Feb. 16 event we will get $10. Tickets are $65 before Jan. 31; $75 after that. Please contact Robin at robinlindecamp@comcast.net for ticket info. Our Club will also be doing the crowd control fence again this year. Details coming soon.

¨ NEXT PNM LUNCHEON TUESDAY FEB 5 : Prospective New Members and their sponsor meets at River City Grille at 11:30 a.m. We have 4 PNM's who members brought to meetings, they are: Darrin Metz (Diehl); Ed Miller (Hicks), and Randy Spence (Klossner) . Please turn in application ASAP. For Kiwanis to do more community service, we need more members.

¨ KIWANIS KAR SHOW We need 150 goodie bag items of something useful. You may place an advertising piece in the bag, if you supply a goodie. So far all we have golf tees from John Hancock and promises from Mosaic (Kaley), Red Cross (Sam), State Farm (Bill M.) and Graddy Insurance (Mick G.). or consider asking businesses for items or discount coupons. ¨ ALUMINUM CANS : Please bring your aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bag the cans and then put in Ben Scott or Dan Garrett's car .

¨ POLITICS AND KIWANIS: Here is your Club policy concerning Political Candidates. Please feel free to bring a candidate to lunch, but, no politicking is allowed in the building. You can introduce your guest by the office they seek, but no speeches. Literature and petitions must be distributed OUTSIDE the building. No announced candidate will be considered for membership until after the election. Candidates on the Aug. 26 Primary ballot will be invited Aug. 14 to a “Candidates Day” program. Those on the Nov. 4 General Elections ballot, will be invited to speak Oct. 30 before the elections. Kiwanis International forbids politicking at club meetings. Please abide by the Kiwanis International and club policy.

¨ CELL PHONES : Community Service collects used cell phones and gives to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call directly to 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if they need it. Please bring your phone and charger; give to Roger Enger.
