¨ ANNUAL INSTALLATION BANQUET : Vice President JJ Gerow is chairing the annual Installation Banquet which is set for Sunday, Oct. 7 at the new Isles Yacht Club. Details coming soon!

¨ OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE FUND RAISER : On Thursday, Oct. 11 , our meeting will be at Outback in Murdock, not here at the Am. Legion that day. Tickets are $10 for a steak, salad, and potatoes. Joan Greene has tickets for 200 people; no program, just great fellowship. We get 100% of the $10 . Tip is requested. Members buy the $10 ticket in advance, you'll get an $8 credit since you won't be at our regular meeting that day. Bring as many friends-relatives-employees as you want.

¨ MEMBER AL CLARK : On Aug. 6, Al fell in his home and remains is recovering at in room 167 on the first floor of Harbor Terrace in South Port Square. We'll get a report today about his condition. You can call Al on his cell phone at 258-6330, or stop by and see him.

¨ ALUMINUM CANS : Since Dan Garrett and Ralph Jordan are both away, Ben Scott is doing the job of collecting your aluminum cans and taking them to the Peace River Animal Shelter. Please leave them by Ben's car.

¨ WALT EVANS SAYS SIGN UP NOW !: Walt has the task every year of scheduling 12 members to be monthly Door Greeters . He also needs 12 members to pick a month and then provide Speakers for that month. Sign up now!

¨ JOAN GREENE INSTALLED AS DIV-18S LT. GOVERNOR: Last weekend in Marco Island at the 90th District Convention, Joan Green was sworn in as our Lt. Gov. I had the privilege of escorting Joan as Gov. Mark Taylor of Brooksville did the honors. Gov. Mark and Lt. Gov. Joan technically begin their official duties on Oct. 1, the start of the Kiwanis fiscal year. Attending were club Officers Pedro Perez, Sheryl Flavin, Gene Murtha, Bob Naylor and Bob Carpenter. Attendance was the largest in 20 years, and it was a great convention. ((See Photo))

¨ BILL & RACHELLE ANDREU : Former members Bill and Rachelle stopped by for a few minutes last week to say hello and give us an update on their lives in Georgia. Bill's father passed away and the funeral was Thursday.

¨ PUNTA GORDA POSTER : Ralph Jordan is chair and has a great gift idea. You can get one at Cayo Costa Dental, SunTrust (318 Tamiami Tr./Emily's office), Bill Martin State Farm Insurance , Peace River Wildlife Center , C.C. Chamber (Punta Gorda Office), P.G. Chamber , and Accurate Accounting (Joan Greene's office). Local artist Ron Bates donated his 16x24 color poster artwork to our Club as a fund raiser.

¨ MEMBERSHIP UPDATE : We have taken in 11 new members since Oct. 1, 2006, but have lost 20 for a minus –9 so far this fiscal year. Our PNM's brought to the meetings are: Mike Graddy (Harris); Vic George & Darrin Metz (Diehl); Ed Miller (Hicks), Alli Creek (Carpenter) . Please turn in their application ASAP for the Sep. 4th Board meeting. It's very important; for us to do more community service, we need more members. Please bring a PNM to Kiwanis.

¨ LAST WEEK : Lynn Wittmeier, Lions, Tigers & Bears Wildlife Refuge.
