¨  P.G. KIWANIS 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS CELEBRATION: Our annual Kiwanis 4th of July Celebration will be in Gilchrist Park with the fireworks from a barge. Harpoon Harry’s & The Captain’s Table are major sponsors donating $10,000 so we  committed to a $30,000 fireworks display this year, our largest ever. The City donates $5,000. If you know of an individual, group or organization that would like to help us in our fireworks donations, please start working on them now. And, we need all the manpower we can get for July 4. Please plan to work that day even though it’s a holiday. It means a lot for our Kiwanis Club to continue our 29 year tradition for all of Charlotte County.

¨  NEW CLUB LOGO/MEETING SIGN DONE: Did you notice our new Kiwanis logo sign with “Kiwanis Meets Here” out in front of the American Legion? Gary Ginter, former sign maker, took on the job of building the frame for the sign. Thanks for a job well done!

¨  CLUB PANCAKE DAY SET: Our annual Pancake Day fundraiser has been set for Aug. 11th here at the American Legion. Once Joan Greene gets details worked out, I’ll let you know. We need someone to handle the Chinese Auction. Please see Joan.

¨  CLUB NEEDS NEW TREASURER: Bob Naylor says he’ll retire as Treasurer on Sep. 30, 2007. He’s held that position for the past 18 years. Please contact President Elect Sheryl Flavin ASAP. Person must have bookkeeping and computer skills. Thanks!

¨  MEMBERSHIP UPDATE: We have taken in 8 new members since Oct. 1, 2006, but 16 have left the club for a minus-8 so far this fiscal year. Our PNM’s brought to the meetings are: Julius Palermo & May Frame-Inman (Rooney); Mike Graddy, Mary Snyder, Terry Lynn (Harris); Pablo Roca (Denova); Vic George (Diehl); Alli & Doug Creek (Carpenter). Please turn in their application ASAP for the July 10 Board meeting. It’s very important for us to do more community service, we need more members. Please bring a PNM to Kiwanis next week.

¨  DIABOLICAL LIST: 16 WHO STILL NEED AN INTERCLUB: Anderson, Craig, F. Desguin, Fersner, Fox, Klossner, Lazzell, Maggiore, Martin, Melton, Nolan, D. Scott, Sturges, Swift, Walden, Webb. Every member is required to attend one interclub a year starting fiscal Oct. 1. We’ve have 21 years of 100% InterClub. Please get your InterClub before the June 30 deadline when fines start. Contact I/C Chair Margit Sargent.

¨  WHERE HAVE ALL THE LEADERS GONE?: Pres. Pedro is back home in Spain for a few weeks. I’ll be away June 21, 28, & July 5 with two CCSO events, and then Pres. Elect Sheryl Flavin, Joan Greene and I will be going to San Antonio for the Kiwanis International Convention.

¨  TODAY’s PROGRAM: Our own Joan Greene, will give us a sneak preview of what Gov. Elect Mark Taylor plans for the upcoming 2007-08 Kiwanis year. Lots of changes! Joan will be Lt. Gov. for our Div-18S.

¨  LAST WEEK: Our own Scott Wadsworth, of A.G. Edwards gave a great informative presentation about dollars and investments!

¨  KIWANIS FAMILY KAR SHOW 2008: Sam Harris says next years show will be Mar. 1, 2008. It’ll be our 3rd annual.

¨  ALUMINUM CANS: Members are asked by Community Service to bring aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bagged cans and put in Dan Garrett’s car.

¨  PUNTA GORDA POSTER: Ralph Jordan is chair and has a great gift idea. You can get one at Nolan Family Insurance, Cayo Costa Dental, SunTrust (318 Tamiami Tr./Emily’s office), Bill Martin State Farm Insurance, Peace River Wildlife Center, C.C. Chamber (Punta Gorda Office), P.G. Chamber, and Accurate Accounting (Joan Greene’s office). Local artist Ron Bates donated his 16x24 color poster artwork to our Club as a fund raiser.

It was a great day last Thursday when our own Club Photographer came back to Kiwanis. Oscar has been in the hospital and rehab center. He’s still raising $1 for a head rub to go to our projects fund. Carp gave him a real rubbing!
