¨  PUNTA GORDA KIWANIS PAVILLION SURVIVES: The City has rebuilt our Kiwanis Pavilion in Ponce de Leon Park after it was destroyed by Hurricane Charlie. Here is a photo I took recently. I will be contacting the City to see about getting our sign put back up on the building. FYI: In 1985, when I was club President, members designed and got contractors to help us build the picnic shelter; our cost then was $5,000. The pavilion was presented to the City Aug. 11, 1985. A bronze plaque still stands on a brick pedestal identifying the Punta Gorda Kiwanis Pavilion picnic shelter. In 1986, under President Joe Maggiore, a roof system was built over the two barbecues. Our Kiwanis Club has free use of the pavilion in perpetuity in an agreement with the City. It is rented out for picnic functions, parties, etc.

¨  KIWANIS REDFISH BASEBALL NITE: To my count Monday, we had 57 of the 66 who signed up for our annual club picnic at Redfish Stadium. It was a wonderful evening of hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, slaw and soda on this “Kiwanis Night.” It was also a great weather night for baseball between the Redfish and Bradenton Juice. All 7 Clubs in Div-18S were invited and I think five clubs were represented. Thanks to all those who came and brought guests. It was great to be back in our local stadium once again to see baseball.

¨  OSCAR DORR: I got an e-mail Tuesday night from Lorra Dorr saying Oscar went to the hospital Sunday for surgery on a bowel obstruction. He was in ICU Tuesday night, and we should get an update today. Please keep Oscar and Lorra in your prayers.

¨  P.G. KIWANIS 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS CELEBRATION: Treasurer Bob Naylor meets with the City DRC Friday morning concerning on our upcoming fireworks fund raiser. President Pedro has secured a barge for this years fireworks launching. But, the City does not want us to use Gilchrist Park this year and wants us to move back to Laishley Park. We are working on a possible layout of the park which has changed dramatically. Electric outlets reportedly will be available by July 4. If you know of an individual, group or organization that would like to help us in our fireworks donations, please start working on them now. And, we need all the manpower we can get for July 4. Please mark you calendar now to work that day even though it is a holiday. It means a lot for our Kiwanis Club to continue 29 year tradition for the community, all of Charlotte County, not just the city.

¨  NEW CLUB LOGO/MEETING SIGN COMING SOON: A few weeks ago I ordered a new Kiwanis logo sign with “Kiwanis Meets Here” sign to go out in front of the American Legion Post-103. Gary Ginter, former sign maker, has taken on the job of building the frame around the sign which can be seen coming both directions on Taylor Road. Thanks Gary!

¨ MAY” MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN CONTINUES: Robin Lindecamp, Membership Chair says if you did not contribute your May Investment Dollar the last couple week, please bring it today and drop in the collection basket for your first month investment in our 4-month membership campaign.

¨  MEMBERSHIP UPDATE: We have taken in 8 new members since Oct. 1, 2006, but 16 have left the club for a minus-8 so far this fiscal year. Our latest to resign due to work conflict is Leslie Martin. It is very important for us to do more community service, we need more members. Please bring a PNM to Kiwanis next week.

¨  DIABOLICAL LIST: 24 WHO STILL NEED AN INTERCLUB: We had an Interclub May 16 at North Port noon but I do not know who showed up, so, here is the list I have: Anderson, Biehl, Craig, Crispin, F. Desguin, Fersner, Fox, Gilreath, Klossner, Lazzell, Maggiore, Martin, Melton, Mingle, Nolan, Pence, D. Scott, Barb Scott, Sturges, Swift, L.Taylor, Wadsworth, Walden, Webb.
