¨  KIWANIS REDFISH BASEBALL NITE: This year we will have our annual club picnic at Redfish Stadium on Monday, May 21. This is “Kiwanis Night” and all 7 Kiwanis Clubs in Div-18S are invited. Members of our Club and one guest will be paid for from the Picnic Budget. Additional guests will be $10 each. Picnic starts at 5:30pm and the game starts at 7pm. We will get a choice of hamburger, hot dog or BBQ sandwiches and includes chips, coleslaw, baked beans and soda. The General Admission Section closest to the picnic area is designated for our seating area. Bill Kopp is chairing and he needs to get a head count by Friday, May 18. ¨  ELECTIONS RESULTS: Members on Apr. 19 unanimously voted for Sheryl Flavin, President Designate; Gene Murtha, President Elect; and JJ Gerow, Vice-President. For 3 year 2007-2010 Directors, Lee Swift, Dr. John Moss and Robin Lindecamp. Congrats to all!

¨  TWO NEW MEMBERS: The Board met Tusday and approved Mark Geach of Florida Community Bank. His sponsor is Gary Ginter. Mark lives at Burnt Store Marina, 3191 Matecumbe Key Rd., #309. Also approved was Charlie Lee. His sponsor is Bob Carpenter. Charlie lives in Port Charlotte at 473 Orange Dr. He works at Arrow Environmental Services (Jack Welch’s former business).

¨  CLUB PANCAKE DAY CHANGED: Our annual Pancake Day fundraiser has been postponed again to sometime this summer. Once details can be worked out, I’ll let you know.

¨  MAY MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY: Robin Lindecamp, Membership Chair says, “IMAPGMIRU?” If you did not contribute your May Investment Dollar last week, plese bring it today and drop in the collection basket for your first month investment in our 4-month membership campaign. The first to correctly solve the scramble of letters and relays to Robin today, will get today’s Membership Guru Award.

¨  DIABOLICAL LIST: 24 WHO STILL NEED AN INTERCLUB: Anderson, Biehl, Craig, Crispin, F. Desguin, Fersner, Fox, Gilreath, Klossner, Lazzell, Maggiore, B.Martin, L.Martin, Melton, Mingle, Nolan, Pence, D. Scott, Barb Scott, Sturges, Swift, L.Taylor, Wadsworth, Walden, Webb. Every member is required to attend one interclub a year starting fiscal Oct. 1, 2006. We’ve had 21 years straight of 100% InterClub. Please get your InterClub in before the Aug. 1 deadline. See I/C Chair Margit Sargent for the next one.

¨  KFCC MOTORCYCLE RAFFLE: Robin Lindecamp has secured a booth at Harley Davidson on SR-776 in Port Charlotte on Sat., May 19 to sell tickets for the KFCC motorcycle raffle. She needs some help from 11am-3pm. Please see Robin to volunteer.

¨  DONATION: Last week, Community Service presented a donation to the PG National Hibiscus Festival Committee. Accepting were Dianne McCombs and Stan Munson. The Festival is June 15-16 at Gilchrist Park.

¨  DIV-18S WINE BASKET DRAWING: Last night at the Div-18S Council meeting, the winner of the basket was Chris Pickrell. His mother of North Port Early Birds bought the winning ticket for him. Thanks to all who made a $5 donation. The fund raiser brought in $715.

¨  ALUMINUM CANS: Members are asked by Community Service to bring aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bagged cans and put in Dan Garrett’s car.

¨  2008 KIWANIS FAMILY KAR SHOW: Sam Harris says next years show will be Mar. 1, 2008. It’ll be our 3rd annual.

 

¨  TODAY’s PROGRAM: Susan Finkelstein of Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care about the new children’s program.

¨  LAST WEEK: Mark Lowbridge of John Hancock about Retirement Today.

¨  SPEAKERS: MAY chair is Sheryl Falvin; May 17, Connie Thrasher of CC Homeless Coalition; May 24, Allen Levin on Florida Kiwanis Foundation; May 31, Mark Solomon, Aquatic Supervisor CC Parks & Recreations. JUNE, Robin Lindecamp; July, Kaley Miller; Aug., Gene Murtha; Sept., Bruce Hughes.

¨  PUNTA GORDA POSTER: Ralph Jordan is chair and has a great gift idea. You can get one at Nolan Family Insurance, Cayo Costa Dental, SunTrust (318 Tamiami Tr./Emily’s office), Bill Martin State Farm Insurance, Peace River Wildlife Center, C.C. Chamber (Punta Gorda Office), P.G. Chamber, and Accurate Accounting (Joan Greene’s office). Local artist Ron Bates donated his 16x24 color poster artwork to our Club as a fund raiser.

¨  CELL PHONES: Community Service is still collecting used cell phones then given to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call directly to 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if the need help. Please bring your phone and charger; give to Roger Enger.
