¨  LAST CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR V.P. & DIRECTOR: The club seeks members interested in being nominated for Director and Vice President. The VP will join the Board Oct. 1, 2007 and move up to President in 2009-10. Directors serve 3 years starting Oct. 1, 2007. Sheryl Flavin follows Pedro, then Gene Murtha, and whoever is elected VP. Let me know if you are interested in a Director or VP and I’ll pass on to the Nominations Committee. The Board must approve the nominations Apr. 3.

¨  LAST CALL FOR ANNUAL BOY SCOUT F.O.S. DONATIONS: We’d like to end our annual BSA Friends of Scouting fund raiser April 1st, no fooling, to help our local Boy Scout Council and Scout Camp. Please mail or give to me a check payable to “BSA” We have raised $7,050 or 90% our $7,800 goal, or $750 short. Thanks to all who donated this year.

¨  DIV-18S WINE BASKET DRAWING: Our Kiwanis Division is trying to raise funds by selling tickets for $5 each. Pres. Elect Sheryl Flavin has tickets for $5 each until May 8. If you’d also like to donate a fine bottle of wine for the basket, please let Sheryl know.

¨  DIABOLICAL LIST: 40 WHO STILL NEED AN INTERCLUB: Anderson, Biehl, Birch, Craig, Crispin, Denova, DePalma, F. Desguin, Fersner, Fox, Gilreath, Harris, Kays, Klossner, Larkin, Larson, Lazzell, Maggiore, B.Martin, L.Martin, Melton, A.Miller, K.Miller, Mingle, Murtha, Nolan, Pence, Platt, Polk, D. Scott, Scribner, B.Scott, Stublen, Sturges, Swift, L.Taylor, Wadsworth, Walden, Walker, Webb, Wotitzky. Every member is required to attend one interclub a year starting fiscal Oct. 1, 2006. We’ve had 21 years straight of 100% InterClub. Please get your InterClub in before the Aug. 1 deadline. See I/C Chair Margit Sargent for the next one. If you made an I/C, see Margit. An I/C was held yesterday at the North Port Noon Kiwanis. We’ll get a report today to see who came off the Diabolical List!

¨  DIVISION-18S PRAYER BREAKFAST (INTERCLUB): This annual event will be held Saturday, April 21, 8am at the Port Charlotte Elks Club. This is an INTERCLUB too, so please sign up.

¨  CLUB PHOTOGRAPHER OSCAR DORR OUT OF HOSPITAL: Oscar was in CRMC for several days and is home resting now. He’s had 3 rounds of chemo and had an allergic reaction to each one according to his daughter Diane Johnson. Marilyn Larkin visited Oscar and said he shaved his head. ¨  DOOR GREETERS: March greeter is John Fersner, and Steve Fabian is the April greeter.

¨  RESIGNATION: I am sorry to report that Marilyn Larkin has resigned due to new business responsibilities that conflicts with Kiwanis but assures us she will return as a member when she can. We’ll miss her. We now have lost 10 since Oct. 1, 2006 and have taken in 5 new members. Please work on a PNM.

¨  PNM LIST: Did you bring a PNM to lunch? Chair Robin Lindecamp said the next PNM Education Lunch is Tuesday, Apr. 3, 11:30 a.m. at River City Grille. Applications are needed for Bobby Diehl (Harris); Mark Geach (Ginter) and Julius Palmero (Rooney), Rob Hancock (Naylor), Ed Miller (Hicks), and Charles Lee (Carpenter).

¨  CLUB PANCAKE DAY: Tentative day for our annual Pancake Day fundraiser is Saturday, May 5 here at the American Legion. Details later.

¨  KIWANIS SANTA GOODWILL TOURS: As I’ve mentioned in our newsletter before, the three choices late this year are Hamburg, Germany; Quito, Ecuador; and Saigon (HoChiMinh City) and Hanoi, Vietnam. If you want more info, go to www.incontra.com and download registration forms. Deposit of $250 per person is due March 30 and also get $100 discount. Kaye and I, plus Joan Greene signed up for the Ecuador tour Dec. 1-5.

¨  KIWANIS FAMILY KAR SHOW DATE CHANGE: Sam Harris says we had to change the Feb. 23 date for next years show to Mar. 1, 2008. It’ll be our 3rd Kar Show and successful fund raiser.

 

¨  TODAY’s PROGRAM: Dr. Cheech Hill on Oriental Medicine.

¨  LAST WEEK: PGPD Detective Tom Lewis on MySpace.com and local arrests due to the internet. Great program!

¨  SPEAKERS: APRIL Chair is Rose Ramsey; Apr. 5, TBA; Apr. 12, TBA; Apr. 19, Annual Meeting/Elections; Apr. 26, TBA. Speaker Monthly Chairs ahead are: May, Sheryl Falvin; June, Robin Lindecamp; July, Kaley Miller; Aug., Gene Murtha; Sept., Bruce Hughes.

¨  PUNTA GORDA POSTER: Ralph Jordan is chair and has a great gift idea. You can get one at Nolan Family Insurance, Cayo Costa Dental, SunTrust (318 Tamiami Tr./Emily’s office), Bill Martin State Farm Insurance, Peace River Wildlife Center, C.C. Chamber (Punta Gorda Office), P.G. Chamber, and Accurate Accounting (Joan Greene’s office). Local artist Ron Bates donated his 16x24 color poster artwork to our Club as a fund raiser.

¨  ALUMINUM CANS: Members are asked by Community Service to bring aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bagged cans and put in Dan Garrett’s car.

¨  CELL PHONES: Community Service is still collecting used cell phones then given to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call directly to 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if the need help. Please bring your phone and charger; give to Roger Enger.
