¨  KIWANIS KAR SHOW COMING: Please plan to work at our 2nd annual Kiwanis Kar Show on Sat., Feb. 17. This family fun event is located at the corner of Jones Loop Road and Piper Road. Please see Chairman Sam Harris to volunteer for a job or see what’s still needed. Sam said there’ll be 60 trophies presented. Yesterday’s Punta Gorda Herald had a nice story with color photos thanks to Sam.

¨  ANNUAL BOY SCOUT CAMPAIGN BEGINS TODAY: Today is the start of our annual BSA Friends of Scouting fund raiser. February is also Boy Scout Month. Member Brad Walden will present the program today along with Paul Penttila and let members know how their BSA/FOS dollars are spent. I will be handing out the usual Boy Scout pledge cards while Brad speaks. Members can attach a check or cash and give it to me at the meeting today or bring next week or so. Please keep the small stub for tax purposes and return the large part with your donation. Members can also make a pledge on the card and check off when you want the Scout Office to send you an invoice and in 2-3-or 4 installments.

Last year, Youth Services gave $500 toward the $7,800 raised and the rest came from members. Please make checks payable to “BSA.” FOS funds are used to further Boy Scouts in the SW Florida Council and provides for the Boy Scout Camp, pay for executives to coordinate all Boy Scout, Cub Scout and Explorer activity in our area, including the scout office. FOS picks up expenses above what they receive from United Way, scouting fees, fund raisers, and various other activities.

Some members said they wanted the option to donate funds directly to Charlotte County Boy Scout troops, Cub packs, Explorers, Girl Scouts, Brownies, etc. The board approved creating a special reserve account within our Youth Services Committee. Those funds would be allocated by YS upon request by local scout organizations.

¨  ROAD TO SUPERBOWL: Thanks to Ralph Jordan, the Football Fund Raiser was a success. Those who participated were Lindecamp, Hall, Webb. Bill Martin, Vic Desguin, Bolton, Ginter, Hughes and Rooney. Unfortunately, only Dr. John Moss was the only one who picked the Colts to make it to the Superbowl. Moss will get a say in where $130 will go to in our club.

¨  CHS KEY CLUB: Last week Sponsored Youth Chair JJ Gerow brought two Key Club members, President Bethany Miller and VP Jasmine Marshall. We’ll see more Key Clubbers at our meetings. The revitalized club now has 18 paid members. Several will work at our Kiwanis Kar Show Feb. 17.

¨  PNM LIST: Here’s a list of proposed PNM’s brought to lunch in the past few months. Membership needs to know their status. Chairman Robin Lindecamp said the next PNM Education Lunch is Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 11:30a.m. and their application is needed now. On the list Bobby Diehl (Harris); Bibi Ullah (Boehm); and Mark Geach (Ginter).

¨  PNM EDUCATION LUCHEON TUESDAY, FEB. 6: Please help us continue rebuilding our club; bring a PNM! Robin Lindecamp is the Membership Chair; Cindy Milburn is Co-Chair. PNM Education Lunch is Tueday at 11:45am at River City Grille.

¨ PUNTA GORDA CITY EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: Mike Rooney presented a Community Service plaque to Jay Stewart last week. Arthur Brewster attended the presentation with Jay.

They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if the need help. Please bring your phone and charger; give to Roger Enger.

¨  ALUMINUM CANS: Members are asked by Community Service to bring aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bagged cans and put in Dan Garrett’s car.

¨  PUNTA GORDA POSTER: Ralph Jordan is chair and has a great gift idea. You can get one at Nolan Family Insurance, Cayo Costa Dental, SunTrust (318 Tamiami Tr./Emily’s office), The Welcome Center (I-75/Exit-161), Bill Martin State Farm Insurance, Peace River Wildlife Center, C.C.
