¨  CHS KEY CLUB: Sponsored Youth Chairman, J.J. Gerow, has done a fantastic job of getting the Key Club restarted at CHS. He and committee members did recruiting in December, and now have at least 13 paid Key Clubbers and they elected their 4 officers. Yesterday, they held another meeting and we JJ should give us an update on how many more have paid. They have a new advisor at CHS, and are planning to attend a special Key Club conference this Saturday. Next week, we’ll send in their names and dues, and take the club off the “Inactive” list. I worked a deal with Kiwanis International that the $100 fee to re-activate will be waived. JJ says we’ll soon see a couple Key Club officers attend our weekly luncheons to better get to know each other since we are the sponsoring Kiwanis Club. Congrats to JJ and the SY Committee for a job well done!

¨  KIWANIS EDUCATION DAY: Saturday, Jan. 20, from 8am-10am at the PC Elks Club, is a special education day for club officers, Board and Committee Chairs. Officers are expected to attend, and every Committee needs to be represented. There will be round tables set up for CS, YS, SY, H&SV, YCPO, Secretaries, Treasurers, Officers and Board members. There will be no speeches for the Committees as this is meant to share info and gain ideas to improve each Committee.

¨  GOVERNORS ANNUAL DIV-18 VISIT: Governor Phil Yorston will make his official visit Sat., Jan. 20, at 6pm at the PC Elks Club. The Club will pay for the members $30 ticket to attend. We must get a head count to see who is planning on attending today. So far we have 12 signed up: Perez, Naylor, Greene, Flavin, Kopp, Rooney, R. Taylor (2), Bolton (2) and Carpenter (2). Let Joan Greene know today if you are going and if you want Beef, Chicken or Salmon.

¨  OSCAR HETTEMA GOODBYE!: Oscar told me last week that today would most likely be his last day as a member of our PG Kiwanis Club. Oscar and his family have built a new home in Tennessee. His new address as of Feb. 1 will be 190 Bird Ford Rd., Dunlap, Tennessee 37237. Oscar has 61 years Perfect Attendance and 61 years of Membership in Kiwanis. If you want to send Oscar an e-mail, please send to his daughter, Joan Smoak at seesmoak@yahoo.com. I checked on clubs in Tennessee that are closest to Dunlap and have passed on to Oscar. We’ll miss you Oscar.

¨  KIWANIS KAR SHOW COMING: Please plan to work at our 2nd annual Kiwanis Kar Show on Sat., Feb. 17. This family fun event is located at the corner of Jones Loop Road and Piper Road. Please see Chairman Sam Harris to volunteer for a job. Signup sheets will be out soon. Advertising started yesterday in the local papers. Sam said there will be 60 trophies presented this year.

¨  PNM LIST: Here is a list of members and their proposed PNM they brought to lunch in the past 3-4 months. The Membership Committee needs to know their status. Next PNM Education Lunch is Feb. 6 at 11:30a.m. and their application is needed ASAP. Please contact Chair Robin Lindecamp ASAP:  Lynda Jones, Jennifer Persaud, Jim Deutsch (Welch); Marianne Votava, (Reisman); Ray Berilla (Kopp); Lenny Kompinski & Bobby Diehl (Harris); Sharon Reynard (Johnson); Harvey Goldberg (Ginter); Bibi Ullah (Boehm); Paul Beight, (Greene); David Friedman (D.Scott).

¨  STUBLEN CHRISTMAS DISPLAY DONATION: Last week member Robin Stublen presented two checks from funds donated by those who saw his huge display at his home which was 340 feet long in front of his house. This year $1,984 was donated and Robin in turn presented $992 to our PG Kiwanis Club and $992 to the KFCC scholarship fund. Total raised last year and this year has been $3,350. Robin said last week that he needed someone from the PG Kiwanis Club to coordinate more publicity. Jan Nelson got up and gave a Happy Dollar for Robin’s effort and agreed we needed more publicity next year. Did I get the idea Jan might be next year’s chairwoman? Thank Robin, it was a great display this year!

¨  MEMBERS OFFERED OPTIONS FOR SCOUT DONATIONS: The Board Tuesday discussed various options for donating to scouting in 2007. February is “Boy Scout Month” and we will kick off our annual Friends of Scouting fund raising campaign program on Feb. 1. This is the start of the FOS fund raiser and pledge cards will be issued for members to donate as usual. FOS funds are used to further Boy Scouts in the SW Florida Council and provides for the Boy Scout Camp, pay for executives to coordinate all Boy Scout, Cub Scout and Explorer activity in our area, including the scout office. FOS picks up expenses above what they receive from United Way, scouting fees, fund raisers, and various other activities. Last year members donated $7,800 to the FOS campaign. Some members have said they wanted the option to donate funds directly to Charlotte County scout troops, cub packs, Explorers, Girl Scouts, Brownies, etc. The board approved creating a special reserve account within our Youth Services Committee. Those funds would be allocated by YS upon request by local scout organizations.

¨  INTERCLUB: Steve Klein is our January interclub chairman and set this morning at PC Sunrise Kiwanis. Steve will give us an update on who attended. Signed up were Kline, Mulkey, Clark, Kopp, Lindecamp.

¨  TODAY’s PROGRAM: TBA by Lee Swift.

¨  LAST WEEK: Member Lee Swift, a CCPS Board Member, gave us a fantastic presentation, complete with renderings of all the new schools being built from scratch. The old schools were demolished by Charley. The County is saving a lot of money by using basically same plans for other schools built.

¨  MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Please help us continue rebuilding our club; bring a PNM! Robin Lindecamp is the new Membership Chairwoman; Cindy Milburn is Co-Chair. Next PNM Education Lunch is Feb. 6, 11:45am at River City Grille.

Please bring your phone and charger, then give to Roger Enger and he gives to me to take to CCSO.
