¨  KIWANIS EDUCATION DAY: Saturday, Jan. 20, from 8am-10am at the PC Elks Club, is a special education day for club officers and Committee Chairs. Officers are expected to attend, and every Committee needs to be represented. There will be round tables set up for CS, YS, SY, H&SV and YCPO. There will be no speeches for the Committees as this is meant to share info and gain ideas to improve each Committee.

¨  GOVERNORS ANNUAL DIV-18 VISIT: Governor Phil Yorston will make his official visit Sat., Jan. 20, at 6pm at the PC Elks Club. The Club will pay for the members $35 ticket to attend. We must get a head count to see who is planning on attending and purchase your tickets next week.

¨  KIWANIS KAR SHOW COMING: Please plan to work at our 2nd annual Kiwanis Kar Show on Sat., Feb. 17. This family fun event is located at the corner of Jones Loop Road and Piper Road. We need your help for this great fund raiser. Please see Chairman Sam Harris to volunteer for a job. Signup sheets will be out soon.

¨  PORTABLE MIKE: It’s been suggested that when someone speaks from the audience area, that we look into getting a cordless microphone so members can hear what is being said. I’ll get costs for the Board and see if it is compatible with the American Legion PA system.

¨  MEMBERS OFFERED OPTIONS FOR SCOUT DONATIONS: The Board Tuesday discussed various options for donating to scouting in 2007. February is “Boy Scout Month” and we will kick off our annual Friends of Scouting fund raising campaign program on Feb. 1. This is the start of the FOS fund raiser and pledge cards will be issued for members to donate as usual. FOS funds are used to further Boy Scouts in the SW Florida Council and provides for the Boy Scout Camp, pay for executives to coordinate all Boy Scout, Cub Scout and Explorer activity in our area, including the scout office. FOS picks up expenses above what they receive from United Way, scouting fees, fund raisers, and various other activities. Last year members donated $7,800 to the FOS campaign. Some members have said they wanted the option to donate funds directly to Charlotte County scout troops, cub packs, Explorers, Girl Scouts, Brownies, etc. The board approved creating a special reserve account within our Youth Services Committee. Those funds would be allocated by YS as they see fit upon request by local scout organizations.

¨  PNM LIST: Here is a list of members and their proposed PNM they brought to lunch in the past 3-4 months. The Membership Committee needs to know their status. Next PNM Education Lunch is Feb. 6 at 11:30a.m. and their application is needed ASAP. Please contact Chair Robin Lindecamp ASAP:  Lynda Jones, Jennifer Persaud, Jim Deutsch (Welch); Marianne Votava, (Reisman); Ray Berilla (Kopp); Lenny Kompinski & Bobby Diehl (Harris); Sharon Reynard (Johnson); Harvey Goldberg (Ginter); Bibi Ullah (Boehm); Paul Beight, (Greene); David Friedman (D.Scott).

¨  CHRISTMAS CARD LANE: Saturday, Jan. 6, we will be removing the cards at Gilchrist Park. Volunteers should arrive at 8 am and, if you have, bring a shovel, tamper and/or cordless drill. This takes a lot less time and manpower than installing the cards, so if plenty of helpers show up, we should be done in an hour.

¨  INTERCLUB: Steve Klein is our January interclub chairman. Steve has set Thursday, Jan. 11th at PC Sunrise Kiwanis. Please signup today to get in your required annual interclub, or contact Steve.

¨  TODAY’s PROGRAM: Exec. Dir. of Tidwell Hospice.

¨  LAST WEEK: Maj. Jim Murray, head of CCSO Reserves and advisor of the Explorer Post-29 and his assistant Ted Silva spoke. The Explorers have asked to work at the Feb. 17 Kiwanis Kar Show as a fund raiser.

¨  PUNTA GORDA POSTER: Ralph Jordan is chairman and has a great gift idea. Local artist Ron Bates donated his 16x24 color poster artwork to our Club as a fund raiser. You can get one at Nolan Family Insurance, Cayo Costa Dental, SunTrust (318 Tamiami Tr./Emily’s office), The Welcome Center (I-75/Exit-161), Bill Martin State Farm Insurance, Peace River Wildlife Center, C.C. Chamber (Punta Gorda Office), P.G. Chamber, Caruso Bay Gifts and Accurate Accounting (Joan Greene’s office).

¨  CELL PHONES: Please don’t forget, Community Service is still collecting used cell phones and given to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. They are deprogrammed and can only call directly to 9-1-1. They are given to groups like CARE and distributed to abused women to get help if the need help. Please bring your phone and charger, then give to Roger Enger and he gives to me to take to CCSO.

¨  ALUMINUM CANS: Members are asked by Community Service to bring aluminum cans for The Peace River Wildlife Center. Please double-bagged cans and put in Dan Garrett’s car.
